During this time of being confined to your homes with your family it is easy to get irritated or frustrated and take it out on them. We need to remember who our fight is really against in this.
Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Our fight isn’t against our spouse, our children, the government, our dogs, etc. Our fight isn’t even physical so we cannot use physical weapons to fight it.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”
Carnal simply means “of the 5 senses” or of the flesh. We have to use spiritual weapons to fight a spiritual enemy. Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us exactly what we need. I’m going to summarize here but I encourage you to go out and read these verses for yourselves.
Belt of Truth -
It is so important that we understand what the truth is. John 8:32 tells us “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” We have to know the truth and that is only found in God’s word. Make sure that each day you are getting into the truth.
Breastplate of Righteousness - When Jesus died on the cross he paid the price for us to become the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Jesus took our sin so that we wouldn’t have to carry it anymore. He literally became sin on our behalf so we could put on His righteousness. No longer sinners but now righteous.
Shoes of Peace - Jesus gave us peace. Galatians 5:21-22 says that peace is part of the Fruit of the Spirit. John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” When we walk in peace we are not walking in fear or anxiety. This is crucial during this time we are in now.
Shield of Faith - Ephesians 6:16 “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” This shield doesn’t just stop the arrows or the darts from the enemy it also puts out the fire he is throwing at us. This means that the fire cannot spread. When we cover ourselves with faith and we activate it in our lives it helps us to stop the spread of the attack. When we are walking in faith we are walking in healing. When we are walking in faith we are walking in provision. When we are walking in faith we are walking in protection. Let’s get our shields up!
Helmet of Salvation -
When we accept Christ as our Savior we receive His gift of salvation. When we put on the Helmet we are covering our minds. Too often the battle we are fighting is in our own thoughts. The enemy tries to come at us with deception and lies. John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” Here Jesus calls the the devil the father of lies. It is all he knows how to do - lie to us. But when we cover our minds with salvation we are not susceptible to the lies of the enemy. We put on this helmet by taking every thought captive as 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to do.
Sword of the Spirit -
This is the Word of God. We have access to the very Words of God Himself in the Bible. When we dig into the Word of God and put those words in our mouth we are unstoppable. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” When we wield the Sword of the Spirit we are speaking the Words of God and nothing is more powerful than that. God used His Words to speak creation into being and we can use His words to defeat the enemy in his attacks against us.
Finally the last piece of the armor Prayer - Ephesians 6:18a “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,” Prayer is vital as part of the armor. James 5:16 “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” This verse tells us that effective and fervent prayer changes things. Prayer defeats the enemy and will cancel his assignments. We have to make sure we are praying!
When we put on the FULL Armor of God we become the fiercest warriors the enemy has to face. Today make sure we are heading into battle fully armed. Just remember we are not at war against our family but we are at war for our family.
