Being Present in God’s Presence

Updated: Apr 1

Psalms 16:11 “You will show me the path of life, in your presence is

fullness of joy.” (NKJV)

As we look around us with our natural eyes, it is easy to notice the distress,

uncertainty, and emotional behaviors of those around us during a time

when we are instructed to engage in social distancing. Though uncertainty

is not threatening, it can be uncomfortable. The Word of God tells us in this

scripture that we will experience “fullness of joy” despite the seeming

uncertainty surrounding us amid the coronavirus outbreak. This scripture

also emphasizes the importance of God’s direction during this time

when we are in His presence. Simply put, we must be present in order to be in

God’s presence.

Psalms 91:1 “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall

abide under the shadow of the almighty.” (NKJV)

In the presence of God there is safety and security. If we compare this to

how we feel during a time of social distancing, this seems to contradict

what the Word of God says. The deciding factor is our focus: will we focus

on being in the presence of God by spending time in prayer and meditation

on his Word (Psalms 1:1-2) or will we exclusively focus on the chaos

around us and the reactions of others? Though it is essential that we

connect with others during this time, we must be even more mindful of the

importance of dwelling in the presence of God so that we can take

advantage of his protection, experience the fullness of joy, and be

grounded in the present moment.
