Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV)
As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
There are things all around us that can influence us. Some of those things are
good, some are not. We need to remember that we are in this world, but not of
it. We have to pay attention to what we let drive our thought processes. Now,
that doesn’t mean we shut everyone and everything out. Don’t be afraid to be
“sharpened” by those who are honestly trying to help you be better, even if it is
not something you necessarily want to hear. Iron isn’t sharpened without
something being ground away.
Not only do others influence us, our goal as Christians should be to influence
other people. It’s ok to hold each other accountable when we see something that
doesn’t line up with the Word, as long as it is done from an attitude of genuine
love. Be honest with yourself and the people you are close with. Don’t be afraid
to reach out and ask, “What have you done with God lately?” Don’t be afraid to
get real with the people you trust, and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Think about what image you are projecting: are you being the kind of person you
would want to look up to? Are you helping someone else be that kind of person?
