Fear. Every person has some memory of a time in which they were afraid.
For a lot of us it’s right now in this time of chaos in our world. To be honest
it’s hard to not be afraid. The world only provokes fear through reported
news, exaggerated stories, and half truths. So if everything around us tells
us to be afraid, then why does the Bible say that we don’t have to fear?
The Bible says in Romans 8:15 that we did NOT receive a spirit of slavery
to fall back into fear. We are not slaves to fear! Fear cannot control us if we
don’t give it power. This means that no matter what’s going on in the world,
no matter the chaos or craziness, fear cannot control us because God is in
The second half of that verse says that we have been given a “Spirit of
adoption as sons.” Back in Bible times, a son who was adopted was more
“valuable” or “important” than a son who was born into a family. This was
because the child that was adopted was chosen. God chose us despite our
flaws, despite our sin, despite our mistakes. We were chosen by the
Creator of the universe. If that doesn’t give you an amazing sense of peace
