Psalms 46:1-2 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;”
The very first two words in these verses say “God is...”. It is so amazing when we start recognizing who God is. The Bible tells us over and over who God is to us. He is: our refuge, our strength, our healer, our provider, our deliverer, our creator, our Father, and so much more. (Psalm 46:1, Psalm 103:3, Philippians 4:19, Psalm 18:48, Genesis 1:1, Luke 11:2)
When we begin to look to who God is it begins to magnify Him (make Him bigger) in our lives. When we recognize how big He is then the troubles and the circumstances in our lives begin to get smaller and smaller when you compare them to the greatness of God. Even those situations that feel giant become tiny when you put them up next to the great God!
“our refuge and strength...”
One definition of the word refuge is a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble. God is the place we run to for safety and shelter when it seems like the enemy is in pursuit to destroy us. He is the safe place to turn. We can trust Him. Another verse in Proverbs 18:10 says “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”
“a very present help...”
The next part of this verse says “a very present help...”. God is present! He is right here with us right now in whatever circumstance or situation we are facing. He is with us but He doesn’t just stand there beside us and do nothing - He is our HELP! The Bible tells us that He will never leave us. What a wonderful promise that He is PRESENT!
When we realize and believe that “God is our refuge and strength” and that He is “a very present help in trouble” then that leads us to place of faith and trust and then we don’t have to walk in fear. When we trust that God is our safe place and He is with us to help then it doesn’t matter what we are facing,“though the earth be removed” we can walk in peace and comfort trusting God. This is such a great promise to stand on especially during times of difficulty and unrest!!
“God is...” What is it that you feel you need today from God. Trust that He is for you, and with you and that He is your very safe place today!
