Thinking and Speaking Life and Truth

Updated: 6 days ago

Matthew 12:34 “...For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

When the news, your co-workers, the kid down the street and the empty

grocery store shelves are telling you that there is no certainty in the world in

which you live, it’s easy to allow your heart and mind to be filled with

anxiety and fear. Once your heart is full of anxiety and fear, that is what

your mouth will speak. However, as believers, we must remain in faith and

not allow ourselves to speak fear, anxiety or any other form of spiritual

death, for we know as Christians that “death and life are in the power of the

tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).

How do we remain in faith? “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the

Word of God“ (Romans 10:17). We must stay in the Word, hearing it day

after day, so that our faith is built up and we are not conformed to the world

and its way of thinking but transformed by the renewing of our minds

(Romans 12:2). When we build our faith and transform our minds, our

thought life will be consistent with what the Word of God says about us and

our situations, not what the world is telling us. If we find ourselves thinking

and/or speaking thoughts that are contrary to the Word, we can take those

thoughts that are trying to exalt themselves above the knowledge of Christ

captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). We do so by

replacing them with what the Word says, and the more we renew our

minds, the more we will believe the Word, be in faith, and speak life and

truth.

Once we are speaking life and truth (the Word of God) in faith, we are

using the power on the inside of us as believers to profit us and those

around us. Hebrews 4:2 tells us that “...the word preached did not profit

them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” When we believe

what the Word says, mix it with our faith, and speak it out, we begin to see

change in us and around us.

Don’t allow yourself to be conformed to this world and its way of thinking

and speaking during these apparent uncertain times or at any time. Fill

yourself with the Word, get it in your heart, mix it with faith and speak it out!
